The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success

Author: Deepak Chopra

"In every seed is the promise of thousands of forests. But the seed must not be hoarded; it must give its intelligence to the fertile ground. Through its giving, its unseen energy flows into matrerial manifestation. The more you give, the more you will receive, because you will keep the abundance of the universe circulating in your life. In fact, anything that is of value in life only multiplies when it is given. That which doesn't multiply through giving is neither worth giving nor worth receiving. If, through the act of giving, you feel you have lost something, then the gift is not truly given and will not cause increase. If you give grudgingly, there is no energy behind that giving.

It is the intention behind your giving and receiving that is the most important thing. The intention should always be to create happiness for the giver and receiver, because happiness is life-supporting and life-sustaining and therefore generates increase. The return is directly proportional to the giving when it is unconditional and from the heart. That is why the act of giving has to be joyful - the frame of mind has to be one in which you feel joy in the very act of giving. Then the energy behind the giving increases many times over."

Pass the Seeds (Like Your Happiness Depends on It - Because It Does)

There is a profound idea that inside every single seed sits the promise of thousands of forests. It’s a beautiful image: infinite potential wrapped in a tiny shell. But here’s the catch—if you keep that seed in a jar on your shelf because you’re afraid to lose it, you don’t get a forest. You get a dusty jar.

For the seed to do its thing, it has to be given to the dirt. It has to be let go.

This concept applies to pretty much everything in life. Money, love, ideas, that really good lasagna recipe you’re guarding like a state secret. The universe operates on a circulation system, not a storage system. When you give, you aren't losing; you're participating in the flow that keeps everything moving.

The Grudging Giver vs. The Joyful Giver

We’ve all received a gift that felt heavy. You know the one. It’s handed over with a sigh that says, "I really wanted to keep this $20, but social obligation demands I hand it to you."

That is what we call "dead energy."

If you give grudgingly, you might as well not give at all. Seriously. The quote puts it bluntly: “If, through the act of giving, you feel you have lost something, then the gift is not truly given and will not cause increase.”

It’s like trying to pay for a coffee with Monopoly money. The transaction happens, but there’s no real value exchanged.

The intention behind the giving is the secret sauce. If your intention is to check a box or avoid guilt, the universe shrugs. But if your intention is to create happiness—for yourself and the receiver—that’s when the magic happens. That’s when the energy multiplies.

Why You Should Give Your "Seeds" Away

  1. Hoarding is Boring.
Imagine you have a brilliant idea for a project. If you keep it to yourself because you’re afraid someone will "steal" it, it dies in your brain. If you share it, collaborate, and put it out there, it grows. It might turn into a business, a movement, or just a really cool conversation. Circulation creates life. Stagnation creates dust bunnies.

  2. The Boomerang Effect.
The quote mentions that the return is directly proportional to the giving when it is unconditional. This isn't a transactional "I’ll buy you lunch so you help me move my couch" deal. This is about giving because it feels good. Weirdly enough, when you stop keeping score, the score tends to work out in your favor. You give joy, you get joy back. Usually with interest.

  3. It feels better than being a Scrooge.
Have you ever tipped a barista an obscene amount just because? Or sent a friend a venmo for coffee on a random Tuesday? That buzz you feel? That’s the "unseen energy" flowing. It’s biologically impossible to be a joyful giver and a miserable person at the same time.

The "Joy Check"

So, before you give anything—your time, your money, your advice—do a quick vibe check.

Are you doing this because you feel like you have to? Are you already resenting the person for needing it? If so, stop. Take a breath. Reframe it. Find a way to give where you can actually feel excited about it.

Maybe that means giving less, but giving it with a full heart. Maybe it means giving something different.

Life supports that which supports life. Happiness supports life. So, if you want to grow a forest, you have to be willing to toss your seeds into the dirt with a smile on your face. Stop hoarding the potential. Let it flow, and watch what grows.
