Becoming and Empowered Empath: How to Clear Energy, Set Boundaries & Embody Your Intuition

Author: Wendy De Rosa

"As we've been exploring, the chakras hold an immense amount of information. The lower chakras relate to our humanity and how we attach and bond to one another in the physical realm. They are also where our spirit bonds with our physical body. The lower power centers hold our personal needs for safety, trust, emotions, identity, and the creative expression of who we are in the world. They also carry processed and unprocessed wounds called imprints that may become hard wired into our nervous system, our habits, and how we think and relate in the world.

Imprints encompass all types of information that is stored in the body through someone's experience. Negative imprints that are inherited through DNA and through our culture and or passed down through family behavior are called inherited wounds.

Like genetic material that is encoded in your body's DNA, your chakras are encoded with information about your spiritual DNA, experiences in this lifetime, imprints from your lineage and your soul's entire history. Your local chakras also carry inherited wounds such as grief, pain, and feelings of powerlessness, which cause energy-body imbalances that become embedded in those chakras."

Your Chakras: The Overachieving Storage Units of Your Soul

Let’s talk about chakras. You know, those spinning energy centers in your body that sound like something out of a sci-fi movie but are actually more like the hard drives of your soul. They’re not just sitting there looking pretty—they’re busy storing everything. And I mean everything. From your childhood trauma to that time your great-great-grandparent had a bad day in 1872, your chakras are hoarding it all like emotional packrats.

Here’s the deal: The lower chakras, in particular, are like the basement of your energy body. They’re where your spirit bonds with your physical self, and they’re also where all the juicy human stuff lives—safety, trust, emotions, identity, creativity. Sounds great, right? Except they’re also where all the not-so-great stuff gets shoved. Think of them as the junk drawer of your soul, filled with inherited wounds, unresolved emotions, and that one weird habit you can’t explain but probably got from your ancestors.

These “imprints,” as they’re called, are like little post-it notes stuck to your nervous system. Some are helpful reminders (“Hey, don’t touch fire!”), but others are more like outdated sticky notes from your lineage that say, “You’re not good enough” or “Life is hard, deal with it.” And the worst part? These imprints don’t just sit quietly—they influence how you think, feel, and interact with the world. It’s like having a backseat driver for your life, except the driver is your great-grandma’s unresolved grief.

So, what do you do about it? First, you’ve got to acknowledge that your chakras are working overtime. They’re not just energy centers; they’re emotional filing cabinets, spiritual DNA archives, and sometimes, a dumping ground for generational baggage. Second, you’ve got to start cleaning house. This doesn’t mean Marie Kondo-ing your chakras (though, honestly, that sounds like a great Netflix special). It means getting curious about what’s stored there and deciding what’s worth keeping and what needs to go.

The good news? You’re not stuck with these imprints forever. Just like you can rewrite your habits or reprogram your mindset, you can clear out the energetic clutter in your chakras. It takes work, sure, but the payoff is huge. Imagine feeling lighter, freer, and more connected to who you really are—not who your DNA or your family’s drama says you should be.

So, the next time you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or like you’re carrying the weight of the world (or your ancestors), take a moment to check in with your chakras. They might just be trying to tell you it’s time to let go of some old baggage. And who knows? You might even find a little extra room for joy, creativity, and all the good stuff your soul’s been craving.
